Ideas For Indoor Halloween Decorations

Indoor Halloween decorations can really add some frightening fun to your party at home or office. Halloween is a holiday that many people of all ages enjoy. Because of that, however, you need to choose a theme that's appropriate for the age group of the attendees. If you are entertaining little kids, you don't want the decorations to be too scary or gory. Spooky creatures can appear harmless and funny too. If the party is for teens or adults then you can go with just about anything depending on your taste.

Personally, I really like ghosts and Jack O'Lanterns. Those are a must for me when decorating for my favorite holiday. Wall Halloween decorations can add a chilling flair to any room or office. You can find a large poster of a pumpkin, ghost, or skeleton with movable arms and legs. My little girl likes witches and she has a big poster of a witch stirring her cauldron in her bedroom.

Cobwebs are classic indoor Halloween decorations. My daughter also likes them and has some in her bedroom along with spiders that glow in the dark. These little Halloween ornaments come in the form of other creatures such black cats, bats, vampires, and more.

A while ago decorative lights were used mostly for Christmas. However, today you can also use them as part of your outdoor or indoor Halloween decorations. They usually come in orange or red, and you can also find lights in the shape of various Halloween objects like ghosts and Jack O'Lanterns.

While you can buy fancy indoor Halloween decorations in large department stores, you don't have to spend a lot of money on them if you are on a tight budget. You can make some yourself. It just takes a little imagination and creativity. If you have kids, you can make it a fun Halloween craft project. Like one time my daughter and I made our own little ghost. First we made a ball out of paper, then we placed it inside an old white pillow case and tied a string around it. Next we shredded the bottom part to create the raggedy and spooky look, and drew a scary face. Finally, we cut a hole above the head and inserted a string for hanging.

Those are just a few ideas for some indoor Halloween decorations. You can come up with more of your own. Just browse the stores for some fun Halloween craft ideas. If you find something that appeals to you, see if you can create something similar yourself or with your children for less than half of the price. Whatever you do, make this Halloween a festive one.

Creative Ideas For Halloween Decorations

With 36.1 million trick-or-treaters visiting homes in 2006, it comes as no surprise that we all want our homes to look as "Halloweenish" as possible for the big night.

Here are some simple Halloween decorating ideas that will make your home look festive but won't break the bank.

Orange Lights

Change the light bulbs in your outdoor lanterns or house lights to orange lights. If you can't find orange light bulbs, you can purchase inexpensive Halloween themed string lights (like Christmas lights) and hang them around your front door.

Make Your Own Luminaries

Place homemade Halloween luminaries alongside the sidewalk or walkway up to your front door. You can make easy and inexpensive luminaries with paper lunch sacks. You can either leave them the original brown or spray paint them orange.

On each bag, lightly draw in pencil a rough outline of a pumpkin, ghost or spider. With a sharpened pencil or nail, poke holes about every inch along the outline of the design.

Fill each bag with approximately 1 ½-2 cups of sand. Place a votive candle in a glass votive holder and securely place the votive in the sand (or use glow sticks if you're leaving your home unattended). Light the votives at dusk on Halloween night and your home will have a beautiful Halloween glow.

Make Your Own Scarecrow

Using old slacks, an old flannel shirt, some hay and a straw hat, you can make your home come alive with a friendly scarecrow welcoming your trick-or-treaters.

The other supplies you'll need are twine, permanent marker, an old pillowcase and an outdoor chair.

Stuff the pants and shirt firmly with hay, leaving some of the hay sticking out from the bottom of the legs and bottom of the sleeves. Position the scarecrow's pants in the chair and shift the hay so he "sits" comfortably in the chair.

Tie the arms and legs off with twine. Stuff the old pillowcase with hay. Tie off with twine and position the pillowcase inside the shirt collar to appear as the "head" of the scarecrow. Secure the pillowcase to the shirt by tying off with twine. With the permanent marker, draw a scarecrow face and place the hat on top.

Make Your Own Pumpkin Family

By painting silly and whimsical faces on pumpkins, you can create an entire pumpkin family that can be proudly displayed on bales of hay on and around your front door.

On paper, sketch your ideas of what kind of face you'd like to put on your pumpkin. Transfer that design to a cleaned and dried pumpkin using a non-permanent marker. Paint the design using craft paints. Seal with a spray glaze or sealer.

If each member of your family (even the little ones) paints their own pumpkin design, you'll have a memorable collection of painted pumpkin decorations for your home.

Halloween Decorating Tips

Since November is fast approaching, you may want to start the decorating your house for the Halloween. Decorating can be really fun especially if you do it with your kids. They may have their own unique ideas for the decorations that you may find very interesting and feasible. A lot of decorations are available in stores and if you check out online stores, some do sell stuff for Halloween. All you need to do is just order them online and wait for it to be delivered at your very home. And if you are planning to make your very own Halloween decorations, here are some suggestions that you may want to try out.

Pumpkins of various sizes and shapes are very ideal decorations for the outdoors. You can paint them using creepy colors and utilize obscure outlines to complete it. Also, you can carve eye holes in them and place candles or any light inside. This will create a dim glow, giving a very spooky ambiance to your house.

Create floating ghosts in your porch by hanging old table cloths and putting eye holes in them. Light them up to highlight their presence. This is can be a very effective Halloween decoration and with a little help from the wind that will bestow its movements, this can be a really eerie site especially from afar.

Put up fake spider webs in your every window and place in creepy insects that glow on the dark. Make sure to put in a generous amount of fake webs to really capture the real feel of an old house. Spray some red paint to create blood splatters here and there. You can also put fake bloody fingers, eyeballs or a hacked bloody left foot.

If you still keep your human skeleton model that you have submitted for your science project back in middle school, take it out and place it in your doorway. You may have to spray paint it with white to enhance it to opaque white. Put it in a relative amount of fake spider webs as well so that you can place fake maggots that will crawl over the bones.

These are some of suggestions you can make when you start decorating your house for the Halloween. Decorating can be exhausting but it will be fun if your whole family would help you out. Halloween decorating can be a family bonding moment for you and your family as well.

Unique Halloween Decorations

Everyone uses pumpkins and orange lights during Halloween, but that doesn't mean that you can't find unique Halloween decorations to use both inside and outside of your home. Sick of seeing every house on the street put up the "crashed witches" or huge garbage bag pumpkins? Here are some ideas to keep your neighbors talking about your neat decoration ideas!

Masks: Masks don't have to just be for your face-they can be some great Halloween decorations as well! Try lining and entryway with scary masks or even hanging one on your front door. This can also be an inexpensive way to decorate, since you've probably collected a number of masks over the years. Put a mask on your scarecrow, on your garden features like statues, and even your kids' dolls. If you'll be using the masks outdoors, make sure that they are weatherproof.
Glass vases: You can fill glass vases with almost anything! Orange, red, brown, and gold are the traditional colors of fall, and you can use strictly black and orange right around Halloween if you wish. Try filling vases with colored leaves, marbles, or orange and black candies. If you want to really get gruesome, you can also use unusual things like plastic bugs!
Spider webs: Most people use the fake spider webs outside, but they'll last longer inside as well. The added bonus? It's ok if they get a little dusty! Spider webs are supposed to be spooky, so put away your cleaning products for a few weeks! Make sure that you spray your spider webs with repellent to deter any live inhabitants from making a home! If you want a less scary, try spraying the webs with spray glitter for a pretty touch.
Murals: Let your kids go crazy by painting a huge Halloween mural or banner. Buy a large piece of white cloth or even a white bed sheet and allow them to use paint or markets to create something your can display along your wall or even in your front yard. Allow your kids to be creative or, if your children are still young, outline the words "Happy Halloween" or "Trick or Treat" in big, black letters so that you've created a big coloring book page for them to color.
Small Changes: You can really make a big impact with just a few small changes. Put up orange and black curtains. Use a Halloween-designed throw rug. Cover the pots of your indoor plants with plastic Halloween containers. These little changes can really make a big difference in your overall holiday spirit!
The bottom line is that Halloween decorations can really help you to enjoy the holiday. You don't have to go overboard or even spend a lot of money to decorate your house. Choose a few key items both inside and outside, and you should be well on your way to a great Halloween. Every year, add a few more items to really build up to a wonderfully decorated house.

Halloween Decoration Ideas - Vintage Halloween Decorating Ideas Inspired by the Early 1900's

While a lot has changed in 100 years, you may be surprised that the essence of great Halloween Decorating has remained almost the same. Unlike the 1900's, we do have modern amenities like electricity, electronics and LED lights to bring more pizazz to our Halloween decorating. I invite you to use these vintage Halloween decorating ideas along with modern twists to create a classic and spooky Halloween scene throughout your home.

Outdoor Halloween Decorations:

If the place where the festivities are held is held in the suburbs, the lawn in front of house should be decorated with hanging lighted jack-o'-lanterns. The eyes, nose, mouth in each one should be different and as grotesque as possible. If there is a fence around the yard, put a jack-o'-lantern on each post. Drape black above the front door and, in the center over the door, hang a skull and cross-bones.

Entrance way Halloween Decorations:

Once inside the home, the entrance way should be in total darkness except for light coming from jack-o'-lanterns of all shapes and sizes on tables, and hanging from doors and ceiling, and around/in the fireplace. The entrance way should be draped in black and the person who opens the door should be dressed in black.

Living Room/Family Room Halloween Decorations:

Decorate the main rooms with jack-o'-lanterns made from apples, cucumbers, squashes, pumpkins, etc. Hang them somewhere in the room or place on stands, tables, and mantles. Use also green branches, autumn leaves, apples, tomatoes, ears of corn and drape the room with red and yellow scrim and cheese-cloth. If possible, have a fire going in the fireplace.

Halloween Decorations for a Spooky Room:

The best place for spooky Halloween happenings is the garage, attic or basement. Have guests enter your spooky room immediately after hanging their coats. If you are creating your spooky room in a building detached from the house, build a large bonfire. The spooky room should be decorated with gruesome things - jack-o'-lanterns, skulls and cross-bones, black draperies, witches made out of cardboard and suspended from the walls, cats, bats, owls, etc. The shades and spirits should flit about. Use this room to tell ghost stories, play gruesome games or for fortune telling.

Dining Room Halloween Decorations:

The dining room should have festoons of nuts, branches of oats, strings of cranberries, autumn leaves, goldenrod, odd lanterns, yellow chrysanthemums and whatever else goes along with the theme. All the decorations of this room should be cheerful and suitable to the season. Charming maidens flit about serving the guests. For a festive Halloween table center piece use a large pumpkin with top cut off, pulp removed, and filled with water holding a large bunch of chrysanthemums or goldenrod. Bay leaves should be scattered over table and around the dishes. The menu card at each guest's plate should be of burnt leather bearing a sketch of a witch. After all unmask, lights in dining-should be turned up and room made brilliant.

Some modernizations of the above could include solar powered jack-o'-lanterns, spooky sound effects and a skull with glowing red eyes. Enjoy putting your unique twist to these vintage Halloween decorating ideas to create a fabulous setting for your Halloween Party.

Halloween Decoration Ideas, What is the Best Way to Transform Your Home to a Great Theme Party

There are a number of Halloween decoration ideas for the frugal available on the internet, and in books and magazines. Individuals who are frugal simply take the resources that the have and maximize them in order to get the best and most use possible. If you want to save money, and have a blast decorating the inside and outside of your home this Halloween, there are many different ways that you can do so.

Here, we will look into a few Halloween decoration ideas that you may find interesting. One of the first things that you can do is gather some basic cardboard egg cartons and create many different "spiders" to hang in and around the home. This is very easy to do. Below I will detail the steps required to make this type of decoration.

The first thing that you will need to do is take the bottom part of the egg carton and cut out sections of three egg compartments at a time. The middle of the three sections will act as the "head" and "body" of the spider. Now, on the other two sides, you will need to cut strips so that you have four "legs" on either side of the body.

Once you have succeeded in this part of the project, you will want to take some black spray paint and completely color the entire "spider". You should allow about an hour for this project to dry. Then, you will want to add a pair of those little eyes that move around that can purchased in your local craft department for about a buck a piece. Once this has been completed, simply thread in some basic fishing line or thread and add a hook on the top to hang these spooky spiders in various locations around your home.

Now, did you know that there are many Halloween decoration ideas where you can use all those burned out light bulbs that accumulate during the year? That's right! Take about four different bulbs and then get a pot of dirt ready that you can stick the bulbs in. Now, get some craft paint of different colors. Color the bulbs orange and then once that dries, create a "Jack O' Lantern" type face on each. Simple stick the little bulbs down into the pot. This should be short of a long, rectangular shaped one.

Then, take some spray webbing and spray in between each bulb and maybe even on some of the bulbs. That's just a couple of the many Halloween decoration ideas out there for the frugal! Just look around the house and be as creative as possible!

Halloween Decoration Ideas to Spook Up Your Party

Halloween is a holiday full of drama and entertainment for kids and grown ups alike. Colorful candies in all shapes and flavors are delightful treats for kids who go from door to door with their 'trick or treat' cries. The costumes add all the flair to the celebration; from spooky to fun dresses, it is all about fun with creative Halloween decoration ideas to lift everyone's spirits. If you are throwing a Halloween party this year, it's time to get creative and make the party something to remember. Along with the usual treats and cocktails, decorating the venue with items that blend with the overall theme is sure to make the bash a huge success. Here are some Halloween decoration ideas to help you have a fun bash:

Halloween Lights: One need not fret over creating the right light setting to set the mood of the party. There are simple ways to lighten up the party atmosphere; how about changing the regular light bulbs to colored ones, or placing colored floodlights over other decoration pieces to highlight the party's theme? You can use candles in a variety of ways as part of party decorations to transform the conventional party table into a spooky dining affair. Candles and candle holders are available in many designs, and you can use those which blend with your party's theme. Pumpkins are synonymous symbols of Halloween, and also serve as great candle holders. Illuminate the party venue with hollowed-out pumpkins which look great wherever they are placed; keep them on the main dining table, light up the porch with glowing pumpkin faces, or place some in the outdoor venue. You can hang strings of decorative lights around the table or the room to add to the overall festive occasion. Black lights are extremely popular in lighting posters, costumes, paintings etc.

Decorative Table Ideas: There are many kinds of table ware to pick from; while most of them are made from paper, one can find good quality plastic ware too. Match the plates, cups, table cloth, napkins and serving utensils so that they look part of the same theme. Say you are hosting a Vampire themed party, you can opt for red and black being the theme colors and have a red table cloth or a coffin shaped cake.

Creative Center Pieces: Using a carved pumpkin is the commonest idea for a center piece. For a themed party, the pumpkin can be carved to resemble the theme; placing a candle within also adds the overall look. You may choose to decorate your table with flowers of the autumn season for a more serene look, or place glow sticks in a bowlful of ice for special effects, or create a creepy look with black ribbons and dried flowers and branches.

Design Your Punch Bowls for Special Effect: Let your guests take their drinks from a skeleton punch bowl, complete with a skeleton ladle and cups, or a creepy looking spider web bowl. The idea is to impart a spooky touch to almost everything!

Thus, with all this Halloween party stuff to help you decorate your home for the next Halloween party, let your creativity lead the way into a fun-filled bash.

Halloween Decorating Ideas - Vintage Halloween Decoration Ideas Inspired by the 1940's

Here are some ideas for Halloween decorations that can be used indoors or outdoors. Decorations like these were popular in the 1940's and many are still common-place today.

A traditional and easily prepared outdoor decoration is made of autumn leaves (real or fake) with corn stalks from your local farmer and lit Jack o'lanterns around the base. The corn stalks can be attached to a porch support beam, a light pole or a shepherds hook that held the summer's flowers.

Another traditional Halloween decoration is the Jack o' lanterns. Put them in groups, line them up on a fence, porch railing, along a walkway or along a driveway. Candles, dishes of alcohol and salt were popular on Hallowe'en. Add blue Christmas lights to give a ghostly illumination.

Free hand silhouettes/cuttings of black and/or orange construction paper hung on the windows and walls make for a neat effect. Some items to draw include witches, pumpkins, cats, bats, elves, fairies, spiders, owls, cauldrons, broomsticks or peaked hats. Search the internet for figures you can print and trace. You can also create unique lamp shades for your Halloween party. Use stiff orange and black paper cut out like Jack-o'-lanterns, witches, cats and other popular Halloween symbols.

Popular decorations were created from various fruits and vegetables. Apples, turnips and carrots can be cut into grotesque faces and displayed as is or used to hold candlesticks. You can also create Halloween goblins from the fruit and vegetables. Use Jack o'lanterns for the heads. The body is a smaller pumpkin and carrots are used for arms and legs which are fastened to the body with wire.

What would Halloween be without ghosts? Use a Jack o'lantern for the head which is attached to an upright post. Drape a white sheet or tablecloth from the post. You can then pin/stake the ends of the sheet out a few feet or just allow the sheet to blow in the wind.

Whatever your taste in Halloween decorating is, you may find that some of these vintage halloween decorating ideas may be ideal for your own haunted home this Halloween.

Halloween Decoration Ideas - Give Your Home the Halloween Touch!

Halloween story says that on night of October 31, Celts celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that ghosts of dead returned to earth. Outdoor Halloween Decorations

Few things are more thrilling for a trick-or-treater than walking up to a house detailed with ghastly Halloween decorations. Whether you use complicated props like swooping ghosts, or simple, classic decorations, like glowing jack-o-lanterns, scarecrows, and indian corn, your house will delight visitors. A haunted yard, complete with fun Halloween decorations, makes a fine setting for outdoor parties in good weather, as well.

Plan out your outdoor Halloween decor. Choosing a theme makes it easier to chose decorations, and is generally more effective. Transform your front lawn into an old, foggy graveyard, a fortune teller's lair, or a mad scientist's lab.

Themes are easier to work with, but don't let that stop you from throwing in whatever appeals to you, and mixing things up. It helps to lay out your design on paper, to get an idea of what will go where. If you are using pranks and gags, try to set them up where guests will have to walk past them to be surprised by them.

There are some very realistic yard props out there, available for purchase form Halloween specialty stores, home decoration stores, and online Halloween shops. Foam-filled rubber sculptures of ghouls clawing their way out of the grave are very effective. Some other prop ideas are: bloody body parts, grave stones, glowing skulls, gargoyles, and faux-dungeon doors. Yard decoration kits are available, too.

With some time and creativity, you can make your own outdoor Halloween decorations out of relatively cheap supplies. Make gravestones out of cardboard or foam. Craft ghosts out of white fabric, and hang them from the trees. The possibilities are endless!

The last thing you want is for them to show you up when jolly old Santa comes by to make his rounds.

Do you know where to buy animated outdoor Christmas decorations? If you don't, then let me give you a few stores that offer these decorations. Wal-Mart is the first store that you should try because they offer a few animated outdoor Christmas decorations at fairly low costs. However, you should remember that all of this stuff is shipped over from China, so that it can be sold cheap. This means that buying these decorations can contribute to the problems of American workers and the overall economy in this country.

Target also offers a number of fun and exciting animated outdoor Christmas decorations. However, I believe that this superstore is French owned. You might not want to buy your decorations from this store if you are still upset with the French due to their lack of support for 9/11. You can also look for decorations in stores like Lowe's and Home Depot. Both of these home superstores offer tons of great animated outdoor Christmas decorations. However, you should do your best to be early when you want to check out what's available on these stores because it will all probably be out immediately after Halloween.

Michael's is one of my favorite places to shop for animated outdoor Christmas decorations. This store is unmatched when it comes to arts, crafts and decorations. You'll soon agree with me if you check out their current Halloween decorations. The Internet is also a great source of animated outdoor Christmas decorations and more. Virtually anything you can fathom is available on the World-Wide-Web.

Halloween Decorations: Make It Spiffy Not Spooky On All Hallows Eve

Are your Halloween decorations going to be tasteful or trashy this year? For some people, Halloween means an opportunity to go garish. But while it's true that many people enjoy the jokey scariness and prank-filled atmosphere of this ancient festival, some just aren't that into the whole horror theme that seems to dominate the season.

Fortunately, there's plenty of color in the autumn palette to characterize your home Halloween decor if you don't feel like resorting to the macabre. The fall brings a wide variety of gorgeous colors and fruits to inspire homemade decorations and provide materials for your craft projects and household designs.

After all, the holiday has its roots in an ancient festival to celebrate the transition of the seasons. So there are plenty of good looking harvest time themes to celebrate this time of year, with decoration ideas and recipes that evoke time-honored customs and rituals.

So if you love Halloween but don't fancy jumping on the blood-curdling bandwagon of scary Halloween decorations, why not deck your house with seasonal trimmings and flourishes instead? Here are some suggestions for decorations and ornaments to keep you in the holiday spirit:

Pumpkin decorating ideas: carve them if you want -- but they'll probably last longer if you leave them intact and decorate them instead. Try painting funny faces and giving your pumpkin characters extra personality with a hat and scarf, or perhaps even some trendy shades for a 'cool dude' look.

Seasonal collections of fruits and gourds: these look great when artfully arranged as a mantelpiece or table display.

House decor: anticipate some of the elegant Christmas trimmings by putting up a garland or front door wreath that uses autumn colors.

Make a Corn Dolly: this old tradition stems from a time when farmers wished to honor the spirits of the harvest and encourage them to return the following year to provide good crops. These figures, made from bundles of wheat, can be as simple or elaborate as you wish and can form part of a centerpiece or an outdoor decoration.

Even if you prefer to give the spooky side of Halloween a miss, you can still take the opportunity to celebrate the autumnal traditions that are traditionally associated with the festival.

Halloween Decorating Tips - Spooky Fun and a Tree for Halloween?

Halloween is a time when anyone can be a kid at heart. You can celebrate the spookiest holiday of them all to your heart's content without having to break the bank in the process. With a little thought, you can create great-looking Halloween decorations. You're limited only by your imagination.

Spooky Halloween Decorating Tips
Halloween can be a wonderful time for decorating, since it's so different from any other holiday, and it has really taken off as a chance to let people's imaginations run wild over the past few years. Here are a few ideas for adding some spooky Halloween spirit to your home:

  • You can easily make a very attractive display by carving holes in apples the size of votive candles and then allowing the candles to float in a large glass punch bowl, galvanized metal bucket, or tub. It can be especially effective when all the lights are dimmed.
  • If you're having a Halloween get-together, you can keep the punch cold by freezing water in a rubber glove and then adding it to the punch bowl. It will effectively keep the punch from getting too warm while adding a wonderfully macabre touch to your table decorations.
  • Another fun thing you can do to dress up your punch bowl is to add plastic spiders and other creepy crawly things to your ice cubes by simply adding them to the water when you put your ice cube trays in the refrigerator. They'll add a nice eerie touch of holiday spookiness to your Halloween party.
  • On the outside of your home, make sure to add plenty of dry leaves around the porch. Their crunch and dead looks will make your Halloween decorations even more convincing, lending a haunted-house look to your holiday décor.

A Tree for Halloween?
Another unusual, but effective decoration is a Halloween tree. Manufacturers turn out strings of outdoor lights for almost every holiday nowadays, so it won't be hard to find orange lights and other spooky decorations for your tree. Just check your local home improvement center or large department store. Your kids will also have a wonderful time helping to create skeletons, bats, witches, and all the other assorted characters that have a special place at Halloween time to hang on your tree. Take a standard artificial Christmas tree as your starting point and then let your imagination run wild.
If you have railings on your porch, you can also find Halloween-colored garland to thread through the rails at the same store where you found your Halloween lights for the tree. It can be especially potent when combined with your spookily decorated Halloween tree.
There's an ever increasing variety of Halloween-related decorating choices to add spookiness to your holiday décor. You can put a special welcome mat in front of your door, you can get stick-on figures for your windows, you can get motion sensitive manikins that will make scary noises and move around when someone gets too close, and you can even buy fog machines to turn your front porch into one of the spookiest places in town on Halloween night.

Your decorations don't need to be expensive, however. Even small touches like painting river rocks along your walkway orange and adding figures or phrases like "boo" can help add to the overall ambience of your Halloween decorating. If you have a tall tree branch hanging in your garden, hang a stuffed sheet "ghost" and attach it to a hidden rope. Have someone hide and pull the rope back and forth to make the ghost move.
The bottom line: have fun with it. Halloween may be thought of as a children's holiday, but it can make for some of the most fun decorating that an adult can do every year!
